El Siglo de Torreón reported on Tamara Radjenović's Mexican debut at the Teatro Isauro Martínez, where she performed with the Camerata de Coahuila, conducted by Ethan Eager with concertmaster Ismael Estevané, and the Choir of the Instituto de Música de Coahuila (INMUS), in a programme of classic opera arias and Latin American and Mexican favourites.
The newspaper traced her path from the piano, which she began at the age of six, to the Royal College of Music in London, and noted that she was the last student of the legendary Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballé. It also highlighted her commitment to classical crossover as a way of bringing concert music to a wider audience.
In an interview with El Siglo de Torreón, the soprano explained why she includes Carmen's “Habanera” in her programmes even though it is usually sung by mezzo-sopranos: Carmen has been one of her favourite operas since she began singing, and she believes music should have no limits.
The first half included the “Habanera”, “Casta Diva” (Norma), “O mio babbino caro” (Gianni Schicchi) and “Sempre libera” (La traviata). The second half was devoted to songs such as Agustín Lara's “Piensa en mí” and “Granada”, “Historia de un amor”, Nino Rota's “Parla più piano”, Obradors' “El vito” and María Grever's “Júrame”.
The audience gave her a standing ovation, and she responded with encores including “Con te partirò”, “Bésame mucho” and Kálmán's “Heia, heia, in den Bergen”. Visibly moved, she thanked the audience: “Gracias a este público maravilloso.”
